In craps games four dealers appointed for each table. At any time, there will be four as they work in shifts and one is kept as a spare to relieve the others when they need a break. Two of them stand at the back of the table facing the players. They are there to keep record of your bets, pay you if you happen to win and take your chips if you lose. In case you are making some types of bets then they are also there to make these bets for you. Once the point has been established they mark the point with a marker called the puck.
The third person at the table is known as stickperson. He is there to use a stick and handle the dice and moves them from the back wall to the shooter after each roll. He is said to be dealer on the stick. He does not deal directly with the players and except to shift the dice to them and sometimes places the bets for the players in his area. Another of his important functions is to talk up the craps games. He encourages the players to place higher bets, or place their bets on the areas where the casino has a higher edge.
Hence, if you are playing craps games then you have to keep a guard against this kind of loose banter from the stickperson. He can influence the bets at the table and can help the casino rake in large profits by talking up the dice when a good roll is going.
Every side of the table maximum up to 8 players are there. The players who stand at the corners i.e. at positions 4 and 5 are said to be “on the hook”. When you go to a table just settle in to any slot that is available for you. If some has taken a break then a towel is placed over his area to reserve it until his return.
